I am living well. I’m studying and I have a type of internship here at ACER. It is a good life compared to the other young people.
I’m not involved in crime. I have friends that I have known since we were children - we always hung out together - but when we became adolescents our paths diverged. I saw that there were two paths to follow. The path to crime, which here in the community of Eldorado, brings a certain status and gives a person recognition. I could be ‘somebody.’ Or I could take the path of an honourable and honest person, which is not really recognised.
Estou vivendo bem. Estou estudando. Tem uma espécie de estágio aqui na ACER. Está sendo uma vida até que boa pra mim comparada aos outros jovens. Não sou envolvido na criminalidade. Tem amigos que andávamos juntos desde nossa infância, mas na adolescência nossos caminhos mudaram. Eu percebi que tinha dois caminhos para seguir. O caminho da criminalidade que aqui na comunidade de Eldorado trás certo status. Pode ser a pessoa é bem reconhecida ou pega o caminho da pessoa honrada e honesta, mas também que não seria tão reconhecida.
My parents, my relatives, older people: nobody has work. Lots of people sell things they make or collect scrap metal. They do anything they can because there is no employment.
Nem pais, nem tios, nem pessoas mais velhos têm emprego. Muitos vendem artesanato e pegam ferro velho. Tem que servir de pedreiro porque não tem emprego.
I have plans to go to university and do a degree in teaching and art education. I don’t want to have children. I will adopt children when I have the means to pay for them to study and to have everything that a child needs. I think it is important to have everything sorted out before having a child.
Eu tenho planos para fazer faculdade de pedagogia, arte e educação. Eu não vou querer ter filhos. Vou adotar quando eu tiver condições para pagar os estudos e tudo aquilo que a criança precisa. Porque eu acho importante para ter estrutura para depois ter uma criança.
