These photos are very special to me. Every photo is very different to all the others. I like my photos best when they are of people.
As fotos para mim são muito especiais. Todas as fotos são muitos diferentes das outras. O que eu mais gosto sobre minhas fotos é quando tem pessoas.
Because nobody looks at me they are in their own world. It is as if I froze that moment but it is not a moment in which they stopped to pose for me as a photographer. They have given a moment of their lives to me. It is a gift. It is not something forced. It is like magic, as if they didn’t see me.
Porque ninguém olha para mim eles vivem no mundo deles. É como se eu paralisasse aquele momento, mas não é um momento que eles param para posar para mim que sou fotógrafa. Mas sim, eles doam um momento da vida deles para mim. É como uma doação, não uma entrega. Não é uma coisa obrigada. È como se fosse encanto, como se eles não me vissem.
In a flash I caught the moment of each one. It is like a spell that caught a beautiful scene. I don’t want the people in these scenes to know what is happening because when a human being realises they are being photographed they lose their beauty and meaning. They start to smile too much and it seems over the top.
Só que o flash pegar aquele momento de cada uma deles. Como se fosse um feitiço que prendesse uma cena muita bonita. Eu não quero que os personagens nessa cena entendam o que está acontecendo. Porque quando o ser humano percebe que está sendo retratado perde-se beleza e sentido. Começa sorrir demais a aparecer muito e não é isso.
And that is not I want in my photographs – it is people as they are naturally, not being false - not the made-up face of the community but normal everyday things. People without make-up, without exaggerated smiles, living their own lives.
Eu queria nas minhas fotos é eles fossem naturais, não uma coisa falsa, não uma face da comunidade maquiada, mas sim, uma coisa normal de cada dia. Pessoas sem maquiagem, sem sorriso exagerados, vivendo sua própria vida.
